Migration reconciliation guide

How to validate a mailbox migration

A completed job status is only one part of acceptance. Reconcile the intended scope, destination behavior and documented exceptions before declaring the migration complete.

Confirm the intended scope

Verify the selected users, folders, time range and source-to-destination mappings. An accurate result for the wrong scope is still an unsuccessful project outcome.

Review counts and exceptions

Compare discovered and processed work, then separate transferred, skipped and failed items. Investigate patterns by user, folder, size, item type or provider error instead of relying only on a tenant-wide percentage.

Sample destination mailboxes

Inspect representative destinations for folder placement, readable messages, sender and recipient data, timestamps and attachments. Test large and unusual mailboxes as well as ordinary users.

Run latest changes and approve

After the main batch, process eligible latest changes, document unresolved limitations and obtain acceptance from the project owner. Preserve the reconciliation report with the migration record.
